Association of Friends of India

The Association of Friends of India was formally launched in the Embassy of India, Bogota, on 14 January 2010.  The founder members of the Association made a presentation on the ideals of the Association which has been registered as a Society with the Colombian authorities.

The Ambassador of India, Shri Deepak Bhojwani, addressed the gathering and urged the Colombian and Indian communities in Colombia to become members and support the Association.  He conveyed that similar Associations formed earlier had not survived largely because interest had waned and this should not be allowed to happen.  The Government and Embassy would support the Association with an ample membership base, which carried out regular activities to promote India in Colombia and vice-versa.

On 18 January, Minister of State for External Affairs of India, Dr. Shashi Tharoor, on an official visit to Colombia, also addressed the newly formed Association and handed over a Cheque of Colombian Pesos  2,145950/- (Rs. 50,000/-) as the contribution of the Government of India to help the Association in its activities.
